Here is a case that should concern
anyone who cares about online privacy. The US Justice Department has sent a "Formal
Request" to a website demanding details about its visitors on a
specific day!
To top it off, a grand jury subpoena
also required the website not to disclose the existence of the
request! The subpoena demanded "all IP traffic to and from the
website. It instructed the site administrator to "include IP
addresses, times, and any other identifying information," including
e-mail addresses, physical addresses, registered accounts, and the
sites users' Social Security Numbers, bank account numbers, credit
card numbers, and so on.
